It's spring in the Palouse, and that means the wildflowers are in bloom. I recently traveled to Colfax, WA to shoot Steptoe Butte, a well known local attraction. I arrived Friday night and stayed at a local hotel in Colfax. As I wanted a late afternoon shot from the peak, I drove the 15 miles to the park only to be greeted with an evening rain storm and gusty winds that precluded any photography. I headed back to the hotel discouraged and to plan the next morning's itinerary. 3:30 am comes early, but I wanted the sunrise light, so up I went and was treated to a beautiful sunrise and amazing light. The wildflowers were windblown from the storm, but in full bloom. You can literally see for miles in all directions from the top of Steptoe, and you can drive right to the spot. It doesn't get any better.
